Monday at 5pm E.T. was the deadline for teams to submit their qualifying offers to their restricted free agents. Just as expected, players like David Pastrnak, Alexander Wennberg, and Ryan Johansen all received offers from their respected clubs.
Notably, though, if you’re a Boston Bruins fan you may have noticed that Joe Morrow, the last piece from the Tyler Seguin disaster trade did not make the cut. Technically they do still have one piece of the trade, which brought in Loui Eriksson, Reilly Smith, Matt Fraser, and Joe Morrow, in Jimmy Hayes, who the B’s got in return for Reilly Smith from Florida. However, if common sense serves, he isn’t likely to be sticking around for very much longer.
RFA’s like Ryan Spooner and Malcolm Subban were even held onto, as these players can and will be trade assets. Morrow, though? Not so much. He’ll be off to another team where he can develop. That makes the Seguin deal all but officially over for Boston. Now Seguin’s a star forward in Dallas, and the B’s are left with a single deadweight forward.
But that’s the true mood of the current Boston Bruins team isn’t it?
You can find the whole list of players to receive qualifying offers on the NHL’s official website.
